Extremadura: The Rough Diamond

Extremadura is a wonderful place to holiday in or to live, with many contrasts in landscape. The Spanish know Extremadura as the 'Rough Diamond', offering a wealth of beautiful scenery inhabited by a wide range wildlife.

This is often referred to as 'Real Spain', and unlike parts of the Costas, where English is often spoken quite widely, here finding an English speaker is unusual and those who settle here do need to spend time learning the Spanish language to help integrate fully. As long as you're prepared to make an effort, you'll find that most Extremadurans will do all that they can to try and understand what you're asking and to communicate with you. A Collins Gem pocket dictionary is invaluable with its Spanish to English and English to Spanish sections which can be passed back and forth in conversations to pick out keywords.

The people of Extremadura are extremely friendly and hospitable and are always keen to help in whatever ways they can. In many villages of Extremadura, you may be the first English, or even foreigner, to settle and as such may be a huge source of interest.

Over time we will develop this site to give far more information about the area, to try and give users a taste of beautiful part of Spain, without leaving your PC.
